Diagonal Split Pocket Card

The Diagonal Split Pocket Card is a fast and easy way to create a gift card holder for any special occasion. With only one diagonal cut through the card front you create the pocket for a gift card, and the funky door to open and close at the same time. This fun fold design is the perfect way to wrap up a gift card for somebody you care about.

I found the inspiration for this idea from Tammy Beard of Stampin Savvy. Take a look at her gorgeous cards here. I spent some time with this fun fold design and tried a bunch of ways to change it up and adapt it. I found three ways to make the Diagonal Split Pocket Card that are my favorite.

What I like about this design is that you don’t have to be precise about the diagonal cut. Decide how deep you want the pocket to be and then cut accordingly. If you need a starting place for cutting then use the following guidelines. Measure 2-1/2″ down from the top right corner of the card front and measure 1-1/4″ up from the bottom left corner.

Supplies for Notecard-Sized Version

• 5” x 7” cardstock base
• 3-1/2” x 5” DSP
• 4” ribbon for a knot or 8” for a bow

There are 2 options to secure the top half closed:

1. Punch a small hole along the side edge where the card opens about 1” from the top right corner. Punch through both the card front and the card back (inside of card). Tie a small knot or bow through the holes to secure closed. 
2. Create an accent to the focal point cluster that can be popped-up (on the bottom half) so that the focal point corner/edge can be tucked under it.

Change the shape of the card by using a decorative corner punch or a large die.

Supplies for Notecard-Sized Version

• 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” cardstock base
• 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” DSP (cut 2 to make two at one time)
• 4” ribbon for a knot or 8” for a bow

You can also make two of these at one time by choosing and cutting two DSP pieces at the same time. In this instance you actually cut the two pieces diagonally first. Then attach either the top of bottom piece to the card, make the diagonal cut on the card front following the line of the DSP. Then attach the second piece.
