The color blocking technique in cardmaking is a great way to create a background on a card front. Color blocking is a design concept that uses two or three big areas of color in simple shapes to create a striking impact and vibrant energy. Now what would happen if we combine this color blocking background concept with a card template? Card magic! I’m going to show you how to use the Color Blocking Card Template 26 in a bunch of different ways, including the recipe for making multiples at one time.
Want to learn more about color blocking? I have three different ways to use this technique in card making from a past Papercrafting Playdate. Check out other ways to use color blocking here.
Here’s Your Homework 😉

- Attach the three 3” x 1-1/4” pieces of Designer Series paper to the 3” x 3-3/4” piece of copy paper for alignment. Center and attach to the card front over the color-blocked cardstock.
- Add a focal point shape of ANY kind and pop up on the card front.
- Add embellishments.
As with all templates I share with you, this one is super flexible. You are only limited by your imagination so think outside the box. One easy way to change the template is to flip the DSP and cardstock around.
Now it’s your turn to do some color blocking and try out card template 26. You may even want to create a bunch of cards at once! Happy creating!
