Secretly Centered Card Template 31 – Papercrafting Playdate 153

It’s time to get out our favorite pattern papers and do some creating with a new card template. The Secretly Centered Card Template #31 is a happy combination of 3-4 coordinating pieces of Designer Series Paper. Why is this template called Secretly Centered? The card layout elements are arranged in a way that initially appears to be offset from the center of the card front, but the harmony of the template relys on three of the elements being centered. Let’s play with this template together.

Card Template #31 Measurements & Directions

  • 5-1/2” x  8-1/2” card base
  • 1-1/2”  x  5-1/2” DSP #1
  • 2” x  3-1/2” DSP #2
  • 1”  x  3” DSP #3
  • 2” x 4” DSP #4 or cardstock
  • Die cut or punched shape for greeting or focal point.
  1. Stamp a gentle background image at least three times directly on the front of the cardbase and going off the edges. Shoot for the empty spaces and stamp in a triangle spacing (approximately where the Xs are).
  2. Attach the 1-1/2”  x  5-1/2” DSP #1 piece along the bottom edge of the card front about 5/8” from the edge.
  3. With scissors, make a banner end on the right side of the 2” x  4” DSP (or cardstock) #4 piece. Attach this piece overlapping DSP #1 by 3/4” and centering it between the right and left sides of the card front.
  4. Attach the 2” x 3-1/2” DSP #2 piece overlapping DSPs #1 & #4. Center this piece between the top and bottom edges
(approx. 3/8” from top and bottom) of the card front, and leaving 1/4” of DSP #4 showing on the left side.
  5. Attach the 1” x 3” DSP #4 piece overlapping all of the other DSP pieces, and specifically overlapping DSPs #1 & #4 by 1/2” each.
  6. Pop up a die cut or punched shape with your greeting and/or focal point image. The perfect spot for this piece is at the intersection of  DSPs #2, #3, & #4

As with all card templates, you should always think outside the box and add your own inspirations to the basic design. As I was creating with Card Template 31 I quickly learned how versatile it could be. I really enjoyed changing DSP #2 into a die cut or tag for added interest. Also don’t forget that you can easily transform a card template into a scrapbook page layout! The new Make a Memory Scrapbook Kit has all the elements to put together quick pages including the pieces needed to mimic Card Template #31!

Now it’s your turn to create using Card Template #31! I hope you have so much fun combining different pattern papers together to make card fronts that make your heart sing! – Robin
