Corner Squash Fold Cards 3 Ways

Today’s fun fold design came to me from all the way around the world! Really, it did! My dear friend, Lynn Fontaine, who lives in Perth, Australia is someone wonderful I’ve met through making my YouTube tutorials. Across the miles we have become pen pals and fast long-distance friends. A card sent from Australia to Springfield, IL takes between 3-4 weeks to be delivered sometimes. Cards sent to Lynn don’t even always arrive at all we’ve discovered. When my birthday card arrived in late December despite Lynn sending it with plenty of time to fly across the ocean, I knew immediately that I needed to learn how to make her fun fold and share it with you.

The Corner Squash Fold card is a fun fold design that incorporates the simple squash fold feature, but only in the corner! This simple fold is sure to delight its recipient with the fun way it opens and closes. This tutorial shows you how to make this fun fold 3 different ways.

So many Corner Squash Fold cards! This fun fold is delightful.

Here is Lynn’s creation.

Lynn Fontaine created this card for my birthday!

You have got to take a moment in time and try this fun fold. It will surprise and delight whomever you send it to! Watch the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and download and save the free pdf for your crafting files.

Corner Squash Fold Supplies

  • 8-1/4” x 7” double sided patterned paper for card base
  • 4” x 5-1/4”  Basic White cardstock for card base support
  • 2-1/2” x 5-1/4”  Basic White cardstock for inside
  • 2-1/2” x 2-1/2” pattern paper (2 different designs)
  • 1-1/4” x 2-1/2” pattern paper (2 different designs)
  • Scraps for creating a focal point for the front of the card.

Corner Squash Fold Directions

  • Look at the direction of the patterns on your card base paper and decide whether you are creating a landscape or portrait version of the Corner Squash Fold.
  • Cut your piece of patterned paper based on which version you are making and which side of the pattern paper you want to be the inside of the card.  The photos below show the two different versions from the inside view of the card base.
  • Score 2-3/4” from the top and left side of the 8-1/4” x 7” piece of patterned paper based on the version you are making with the side of the paper you want to be the inside facing you.
  • Mark with pencil and ruler 5-1/2” from the corner of the card base where the score lines make a square in both directions. Score between these lines diagonally. The score line will cross the other 2 score lines.
  • Fold on the diagonal score line away from the center of the card.
  • Fold on the straight (2-3/4” ) score lines towards the inside of the card.
  • Create the corner squash fold by folding the diagonal lines together to close the square.
  • If adding coordinating patterned paper on the outside front of the card base attach the 2-1/2” x 2-1/2”  and 1-1/4” x 2-1/2”  pieces.
  • Stamp the inside card sentiment on the 2-1/2” x 5-1/4” piece of Basic White and attach to the inside.
  • 10. Add a focal point to the squash fold corner. This piece can overlap over the corner to look more centered on the card base, but only adhere to the corner squash fold.
  • 11. If you want the card to be more stable add the 4” x 5-1/4”  cardstock on the back of the card. This not only stabilized the card but can be an extra place to write more message.
