Happy Friday! Today is all about Friday fun in the form of a new card template called the Slide & Lock Gate Fold. You will love how easy this pattern is to follow and adapt to whatever size image you want to stamp. I got this crazy cool card idea from another demonstrator, Lisa Curcio, who is absolutely fabulous with her tutorials. Check her out! What I love most about this pattern is that it is something completely new to me. You have to give it a try!
Step 1 – Cut cardstock 4″ x 11″ and score at 2.75″ from one short side. Fold on the score line to create one side of the gate fold. Then fold the other short side to almost meet the first at the center of the card. You want to leave about 1/16″ space in between the two gate folds to leave room for the slide and lock mechanism to move.
Step 2 – Decide the size of the sliding mechanism you need based on the focal point image you are using. The pdf directions have a generic size of 3.5″ x 3.5″ for this piece just to get you started. You want to cut 4 of these 3.5″ squares. Score 2 of the 4 squares in half at 1.75″.
Step 3 – Fold the two squares in half on the score lines. These will be the “hinges” of the slide and lock mechanism. Adhere the hinges with strong adhesive to one of the remaining 2 squares, butting up the folds in the center.
Step 4 – Adhere the remaining square on top of the folded squares creating a sandwich where the hinges are in between the other squares.
Step 5 – Now you will be able to attach the slide and lock piece onto the card base by sliding the edges of the gate fold into the hinges.
Step 6 – Start decorating the card base and the focal point pieces. If you want a white edge around the focal point then add a 3.25″ square of Designer Series Paper. Stamp and embellish as desired. Attach Designer Series Paper to both sides of the gate fold card front. These pieces measure 2.5″ x 4″ each.
