Paper Pumpkin Playtime – “Hooray for Birthdays” July Paper Pumpkin Kit

It’s time to play with July’s Paper Pumpkin Kit, “Hooray for Birthdays”. Join me as we put together the cards and use this fun fold kit! You will find a video tutorial for creating with this kit as well as ideas for some alternative designs below.

Grab your kit and join me for some creative playtime. July’s Paper Pumpkin Kit, “Hooray for Birthdays” makes nine cards. I will make three cards as designed by Stampin’ Up! and then make four alternative versions using the supplies in the kit. The photos of the alternative cards are below. Watch the video for the specific measurements used to create the alternative designs on cards #1-#4.

Alternative Card 1 – Z-Fold Card

• So easy to turn an easel card into a z-fold card! Just flip the card base so that the printed side is on the “inside” and fold back half of the card front. Attach the card front focal point to the folded back part.

Alternative Card 2 – Faux Z-Fold Card

• Flip the card base so that the printed side is on the “inside”. Arrange the card base so that the 2-3/4″ premade score line is on the left side and the 5-12/” score line is in the middle. Measure and make a mark at 2-3/4″ along the the 11″ edge on the right side of the card base. Make a 1-1/2″ score up from that edge.
• Cut at 1-1/2″ in between the two 2-3/4″ score lines. Fold one the score lines to create the faux z-fold.

Alternative Card 3 – Decorative Panel Pop-Out Card Version 1

• Using the premade card base that is already scored at 2-1/8″ and 4-1/4″, create another score line at 6-3/8″.
• Fold in half on the 4-1/4” score lines then fold the 2-1/8” and 6-3/8” score in the opposite direction creating an “M”. This makes a folding panel that will stand on its own.
• Score a 2” x 8” strip of Basic White at 2”, 3”, 5” and 6”. Fold all the score lines in the same direction. Add adhesive to the 2” sections of the strip.
• Adhere the strip to the card base. Line up the 2” score line with the 2-1/8” score line on the card base. (Note: there will be 1/8” gap on the underside between the strip and the middle score line. Then do the same thing on the other side lining up the 6” score line with the 6-3/8”. The card base will not lay flat when open.
• Attach the die cut to the middle section of the strip making sure the flat edge is even with the bottom edge of the card base. You can attach the die cut to the middle like I did but be aware that the card will easily tip when standing.

Alternative Card 4 – Decorative Panel Pop-Out Card Version 2

• Using the premade card base that is already scored at 2-1/8″ and 4-1/4″, create another score line at 6-3/8″.
• Fold in half on the 4-1/4” score lines then fold the 2-1/8” and 6-3/8” score in the opposite direction creating an “M”. This makes a folding panel that will stand on its own.
• Score a 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” piece in half along the 5-1/2” edge at 2-3/4”. Decorate both sides.
• Attach pop-out to the card base by gluing the outside edges to the two outermost panels. When the card is closed the pop-out cannot extend beyond the 4-1/4” width.

How I used the Remainder of My Kit – 3 More Cards

Split Negative Technique: I took one half of a card base, trimmed it to 4″ x 5-1/4″. Score it lightly in half vertically at 2″. Center any shaped die over the score line and cut. Keeping the shape inside, cut along the score line. Flip and adhere to a card front.

Flap Fold Card: Use one of the large premade die cut make a 1/2″ score along one edge and adhere it under the inside piece of cardstock.
