A New Fun Fold – Pinwheel Tower Card

This crazy cool fun fold pattern is new to me! Not only is it pretty easy to put together but it is also a real wow for the recipient of the card. With just a few pieces of cardstock and some Designer Series Paper you can create a 4-sided card that can be mailed in a regular envelope. The Pinwheel Tower Card is fun to flip and manipulate, and it looks great displayed.

Pinwheel Tower Cards – Papercrafting Playdate #26

 Basic Supplies Needed

•5 3/4” ” x 4 1/4” Basic White cardstock

•2 3/4” x 4 1/4” Basic White CS, cut 3

•2 3/4” x 4 1/4“ different patterned papers cut 3-4

•2” x 4 1/4” different coordinating patterned papers, cut 3-4

Basic Supplies Needed
Score the 5 3/4” ” x 4 1/4” piece of cardstock along the long edge at 3/4”, 1 1/2”, 2 1/4”, and 3”. Use a bone folder to crease all the score lines in the same direction.
Fold on the score lines to make a four-sided column with a tab to glue to the card base. This gives you the center column and the first panel of the pinwheel.
View of the top before gluing on the remaining pinwheel sides.
Attach the first 2 3/4” x 4 1/4” piece so that it will be perpendicular to the first pinwheel panel.
Continue with the next panel by attaching it to the column perpendicularly to the previously attached pinwheel panel.
Finish with the last pinwheel panel. Now you are ready to decorate the base of the card with Designer Series Paper.

Now comes the fun part! Decorate the pinwheel sides with Designer Series Paper and arrange them so there are coordinating patterns on each side because you will see 3 pieces each time you turn to a different side of the card. Remember to adhere the stamped images or embellishments in a way so that they don’t stick out where you don’t want them to.

I like to pick a side of the pinwheel to be the “front” of the card and where I put the initial sentiment. One of the really cool things about this fun fold is that you have the opportunity to use multiple sentiments to get your message across, and often you can layer your message from one flip of the pinwheel to the next. For example, this card’s greeting message is this: “To a dear friend. You’ve touched my heart. So very much. Thank you. A little note with biggest thanks.”
